Feeling the heat; Goodluck Jonathan exiled himself to Cote d’Ivoire.
There are reports that former president Goodluck Jonathan may have gone into temporary self-exile in Cote d’Ivoire.
The information of the government’s resolve to arrest Jonathan has heightened attacks on the oil and gas installations by Ijaw militants in the Niger Delta.
A source within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that the former president may be arrested before May 29.
According to ThisDay, the commission allegedly plans to arrest him on his arrival in Nigeria from his overseas tour on allegations of corruption and misappropriation of billions of dollars in the five years during which he was President.
It is alleged that the former president was reliably warned by security sources of the plan to arrest him once he stepped into the country, hence his decision to seek exile in Cote d’Ivoire.
In recent weeks, the EFCC in addition to arresting and prosecuting several public office holders who served under the Jonathan administration, arrested the former president’s cousin, Aziobola Robert, in connection to a $40 million pipeline surveillance contract.

Buhari to meet Jonathan over Niger delta Avengers.
President Muhammadu Buhari may have invited his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, for talks over recent attacks by a militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, on oil and gas installations. Jonathan, an indigene of oil-rich Bayelsa, is likely to visit Aso Rock this week, a source said. Attacks by the Niger Delta Avengers has caused a major drop in Nigeria’s oil output from 2.2m to 1.65m barrels per day.
The group has also warned of more attacks, warning oil companies in the region to evacuate their staff.
It is believed that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who yesterday visited the Villa, discussed the same issue with the president.
Wike and the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, left the president’s office at about 2:30pm without speaking to journalists.
